ADAS Calibration for Citroën models

Active Safety Brake warning on your C5 Aircross after a windscreen swap? That's the front camera telling you it lost its reference point. One millimetre of mounting offset shifts readings by several metres at road speed. We recalibrate Citroen camera and radar systems from A$349.

Citroën ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific Citroën model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

Citroen ADAS Systems We Calibrate

  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go - radar behind the front bumper. Needs recalibration after any bumper removal, repaint, or collision repair. A shifted radar reads closing distances wrong and can trigger phantom braking or fail to hold set speed.
  • Active Safety Brake / Active Safety Brake 2.0 - camera at the top of the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror. Triggers automatic braking below 80 km/h. After windscreen replacement, the camera bracket position changes and the system either false-alerts or stops responding entirely.
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist - shares the windscreen-mounted camera with Active Safety Brake. Reads lane markings and applies corrective steering input. A misaligned camera reads the lane offset wrong, causing unwanted steering pulls.
  • Long Range Blind Spot Monitoring - rear radar sensors behind the bumper. Detects vehicles up to 70 metres back in adjacent lanes. Rear bumper repairs, repainting, or even excessive paint thickness can block or deflect the radar signal.

Citroen sits on the Stellantis platform, sharing ADAS architecture with Peugeot, Fiat, DS, and Vauxhall. The sensor hardware is near-identical across these brands, but each uses different system names and different software calibration routines. A calibration profile for a Peugeot 3008 won't work on a C5 Aircross, even though the camera module is the same part number.

The One-Millimetre Problem on Citroen Windscreens

Citroen's own technical bulletin states it plainly: a fitting difference of one millimetre on the front windscreen causes measuring differences of several metres at driving distance. That's not a theoretical number. It's the documented spec from PSA engineering.

The front camera sits at the top of the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror. When O'Brien or any glass shop fits a replacement screen, even a perfect installation shifts the camera's optical axis slightly. The bonding thickness, the bracket angle, the glass curvature - all of it matters at sub-millimetre precision.

Without calibration, Active Safety Brake might read a car two lanes over as a head-on threat. Or it might not see the car in front at all. Both outcomes are real, and both are documented across PSA-platform vehicles in our workshop data.

Citroen's calibration procedure has two phases. Static calibration uses a target panel positioned at a precise distance and height in front of the vehicle. Dynamic calibration requires a road test above 60 km/h on a straight, dry road with clear lane markings. Both phases must complete for the system to pass. If the weather is wet, the dynamic phase fails - the camera can't distinguish lane markings from water reflections.

Stellantis Diagnostic Requirements

Stellantis vehicles require specific diagnostic access that most aftermarket tools can't provide. The OEM-required platform is wiTECH 2.0 with the MDP pod. Aftermarket scan tools can read fault codes on Citroen, but they can't write calibration data or clear ADAS-specific DTCs reliably.

One tool has been confirmed to brick Stellantis instrument clusters outright - AJ Diagnostics boxes. This isn't theoretical. It's a documented failure that's been shared across the ADAS technician community as a hard warning. Once the cluster bricks, it's a dealer-only replacement.

Stellantis modules can also carry "soft faults" - conditions where the system isn't working correctly but no diagnostic trouble code gets stored. The only way to catch these is a full module interrogation through wiTECH, checking for incomplete over-the-air updates and partially written calibration data. A standard post-scan with an aftermarket tool would show a clean bill of health while the system is actually compromised.

Bumper Repairs and Blind Spot Calibration

Stellantis released a position statement in early 2026 covering bumper repairs on vehicles with blind spot monitoring. The requirements are specific:

  • BSM calibration and initialisation must be completed after any bumper work - not optional
  • Post-scan with wiTECH is mandatory, and all DTCs must be resolved before the vehicle leaves
  • BSM functionality must be validated with a live test, not just a clear scan
  • Paint thickness on repaired bumpers must stay within 2.5-4 mils for OE spec, with an absolute maximum of 12 mils

That paint thickness spec matters more than most shops realise. Citroen's Long Range BSM radar sits behind the rear bumper skin. Radar signals pass through plastic and paint, but excessive paint buildup attenuates the signal. Three coats of primer, colour, and clear on a bumper repair can push thickness past the point where the radar starts losing range. The system still appears to work at close range, but it won't pick up vehicles 50-70 metres back - exactly where you need it on a motorway merge.

Insurance assessors increasingly ask for calibration records after bumper work on Stellantis vehicles. Having the OEM-specified procedure completed with wiTECH documentation gives the repairer and the owner a clean paper trail.

Common Failures and Fault Patterns

Active Safety Brake Warning After Windscreen Replacement

The most frequent trigger across the C3, C4, and C5 Aircross range. The dashboard shows an Active Safety Brake warning, sometimes accompanied by a lane departure alert. Fault codes in the C1xxx range may or may not be stored - PSA systems are inconsistent about logging camera-related DTCs after glass work. Static and dynamic calibration clears the warning and restores full function in 60-90 minutes.

ACC Drops Out at Speed

Adaptive Cruise Control disengages unexpectedly on the highway. The front radar behind the bumper has shifted - usually after a minor nose contact or bumper respray. The system works in traffic below 40 km/h but loses tracking at highway speeds where radar accuracy matters most. Radar aiming resolves it.

BSM False Alerts After Rear Collision

Blind spot indicators light up with no vehicle present, or fail to light when a car is alongside. Rear bumper displacement moves the radar sensor angle. Even with the bumper visually straight, a 2-degree shift at the sensor is enough to throw detection zones off. Recalibration resets the detection field geometry.

Why Citroen Owners Choose ADAS Line

  • Stellantis platform knowledge - we calibrate across the full PSA and Stellantis range, from C3 to Jeep Grand Cherokee. Same platform architecture, different software - we know both sides.
  • A$349 vs dealer pricing - Citroen dealer calibration runs A$600-A$1,000 depending on the system. Our windscreen camera calibration starts at A$349 with the same OEM-grade procedure.
  • Qualified technicians - trained specifically on ADAS calibration procedures, not general mechanics fitting calibration into a service menu.
  • Service centres Australia-wide - you don't need to drive to a metro dealer. We cover regional areas where Citroen dealer access is limited.
  • Calibration certificate - documentation showing what was calibrated, what targets and procedures were used, and final pass/fail status. Required for insurance claims and warranty records.

How Citroen ADAS Calibration Works

  1. Get a quote - tell us the model, year, and what triggered the need. Windscreen replacement and bumper repairs are the two most common reasons for Citroen owners.
  2. Book your appointment - windscreen camera calibration takes 60-90 minutes. Radar aiming adds 30-45 minutes. Full system reset with both camera and radar runs 90-120 minutes.
  3. Drive away calibrated - we complete both static and dynamic calibration phases, run a final system check, and issue a calibration certificate confirming pass status across all recalibrated systems.
